It's been a rather wet week in Poznan, not helped by Cyclone Boris which has brought torrential rain to much of central Europe for the past couple of days.
The driest day of the week was Tuesday, when I managed to get out for a nice walk around the town centre after work.
I walked past the Royal Castle, which looks rather new because it had to be rebuilt after the Second World War.
From there I only had to walk down a couple of streets before I hit the main square, Stary Rynek.
When I came to visit Tim in Poznan last September, the square was almost out of bounds with construction work. Happily, all that now seems to have finished
The square in Poznan maybe isn't quite as big as the one we saw in Wrocław on Sunday, but it's still very impressive.
There are lots of colourful buildings...
...and the town hall building is very big and grand.
I particularly loved this row of buildings.
The colours and patterns were really unusual.
Just down a small side street off the square is this brightly coloured basilica which I remembered from last year.
It's a very large and distinctive church.
From there I made my way through a small park...
...and headed back towards the apartment to meet up with Tim, who had been presenting about his dissertation in the afternoon. We ended up walking back to the main square an hour or so later and found an Italian restaurant where we could sit outside and eat pizza with a view of the town hall
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday were all pretty wet, so we didn't get to eat outside again for the rest of the week. The forecast suggested the weather was going to be a bit drier on Saturday though, which was good news because I'd booked train tickets to the nearby town of Toruń.
