It was a beautiful sunny morning when we woke up in Portugal today.
We had breakfast in the hotel, then drove a few kilometres along the coast towards a beach called Praia Dona Ana. I'd read there was a car park next to a viewpoint here, from where we could follow a path along a headland. We found the car park without any problems, but the viewpoint was closed off for construction work so we didn't get much of a view.
We did, however, manage to find the footpath I was looking for and luckily that wasn't closed off. We climbed some steps up over the cliff and soon had a view down towards the beach.
The coastline here was gorgeous, though we could see from the view in the distance that parts of the Algarve are quite built up.
We followed a trail alongside the sea, admiring the different rock formations.
I particularly enjoyed seeing sea arches.
The sea was a bright shade of blue today and it was amazing that it was warm enough to walk along without coats or jumpers.
We followed a small trail off the main route...
...which led us to a beautiful view of some sea stacks.
From there we returned to the main route...
...which led us past some more sea stacks...
...and then to a lighthouse.
You could climb down steps to some of the beaches from here, but it looked a long way down!
We were content to admire the views from above!
This wasn't a circular walk, so we did have to be careful of how far we went.
Eventually we came to a headland from where we could see the lighthouse in one direction...
...and a huge cliff in the other. I think our hotel is on the other side of this cliff.
We decided this was a good spot to turn around and make our way back towards the car.
Once we reached the car we drove for a couple of kilometres into the centre of nearby Lagos.
It was a pretty little place, with colourful tiled buildings.
We found a restaurant where we could sit outside in the sunshine and get lunch. I had macaroni cheese with chicken, which was really nice, while Tim went for a steak sandwich.
We finished the meal with coffee and churros
After lunch we had another stroll around the town. I loved the pastel buildings.
We walked along by the sea...
...and found the local church.
Then it was back to the hotel for an afternoon relaxing on the balcony
