Day 4: Bratislava to home

Our final morning in Slovakia got off to an exciting start with breakfast in the hotel. This might not sound terribly exciting, but we've stayed in this hotel lots of times and never splashed out on the expensive breakfast, which is at least EUR 15 per person. I had paid for it this time, so was keen to get my money's worth! It did turn out to be a good selection with warm food like scrambled eggs and hash browns, as well as pancakes with maple syrup and all sorts of different pastries and cakes.

In the period between going back to the room after breakfast and checking out, we were surprised by a loud multilingual announcement telling us we needed to evacuate the building immediately. We assumed it was a fire drill and made our way down stairs from the fourth floor. There was a lot of confusion in reception; not sure what had happened, but it wasn't an expected drill. Eventually we were allowed to go back upstairs, but the fire alarm seemed to have stopped the lifts from working so we had to climb all the way back up to the fourth floor!

Luckily, by the time we were ready to check out the lifts had been restored, so we didn't have to carry our suitcases downstairs. We took them in the lift, left them in the hotel's luggage room and went out for a final walk around Bratislava. I wanted to walk into town via a slightly different route this time, past the presidential palace.

Just across the main road from the palace we suddenly spotted a familiar logo  

As you can probably see from the photos, it was a rather a damp day in Bratislava.

It was light rain, just enough to be a bit annoying.

We ended up having a fairly short stroll around the centre and then finding somewhere to get lunch.

After lunch we went back the bookshop cafe which we'd visited yesterday for coffee and some more cake.

It was a nice end to what has been a fun weekend away in Slovakia
