Day Five: Raleigh

Today was a normal working day for me, but once I'd got in my hours for the day I decided to go out for another walk around Raleigh before dinner. It was ridiculously hot again, but I decided to go for a stroll around a part of town called Oakwood, which is North Carolina's largest intact 19th-century residential neighbourhood.

I walked down some beautiful leafy streets, which provided some welcome shade.

I loved the bright blossom on these trees.

And the trunks of these trees were really interesting too - they looked quite exotic!

Of course, I walked past some beautiful houses as well.

There were all kinds of different colours: blue...

...and pink.

Eventually I ended up back in the more modern part of town.

I found a monument of a giant acorn, but no explanation as to what it was doing there :D

I walked back to the university, past more impressive houses.

I found a display of sunflowers...

...and then it was back to the university, just on time for dinner.

The food so far seems pretty good; we've had scrambled eggs for breakfast, turkey burgers for lunch and barbecued meat (with a side of mac n cheese!) for dinner :)
