It was another beautiful sunny day when we woke up in Mallorca this morning. Our flight back to Birmingham wasn't until 17.35, so after an improvised breakfast on our balcony we jumped in the rental car and set off towards the town of Sóller, a drive of around 20 miles from Palma.
There are two ways to get to Sóller; a new fast road, which goes through a tunnel in the mountains, and an older road which goes up and over the mountains themselves. We opted for the older road, which gave us a really scenic drive up into the hills and down towards Sóller. Again, no photos as there wasn't anywhere to stop on the road, but it was a really beautiful route
We arrived in Sóller and found somewhere to park without any problems. Even better, the parking was free because it was a Sunday. We began walking into the town centre.
The main square in the middle of the town is dominated by the church of Sant Bartomeu.
From there we explored a series of small side streets.
There were some really beautiful little roads, with houses that looked really old.
Before we knew it we found we'd walked to the edge of the town.
There was a fantastic view of the mountains we'd driven through to get here.
We turned around and walked back towards the main square and the car.
From Sóller we drove a few miles down the road to the little town of Port de Sóller, which is on Mallorca's western coast. Parking was a little bit more difficult here, as there was a complicated system in place which meant we weren't able to park in the first carpark we found without some sort of scannable card that we didn't have. But we found a normal carpark eventually and set out for a stroll along the sea front.
The beaches in Mallorca really do seem to be lovely and sandy.
As with Pollença yesterday, we were able to walk along the harbour for some time.
There were lots and lots of boats here...
...and some beautiful mountain views
We found a restaurant with a great view of the sea and sat down to get some lunch.
We both had a steak, which unfortunately was a little bit rarer than we might have hoped! Then it was time to start walking back towards the hire car to begin the drive back to Palma, ahead of this evening's flight home.
We've had a wonderful time in Mallorca. The scenery on the island has really surpassed my expectations and it's definitely a place we could explore further.
