Evening 2: In Skopje

It was so nice last night when Clare and I ventured out that I said "I really should've brought the camera." So we decided to come out this evening and revisit today's sights, which all happen to have been illuminated.

A visit to the bridges that were a couple of minutes' walk from our apartment brought us some familiar sights:

And as we looked into the distance we caught a glimpse of the fortress that we'd visited earlier:

And then we headed off to the lovely square in which we'd seen so many beautiful statues and fountains earlier:

The statue of Phillip II was splendidly illuminated, though unfortunately not enough to see Alexander's father himself:

And then we headed over the bridge to what we presumed would be the star spectacle. We weren't let down. The statue of the Warrior on a Horse was accompanied by a light-and-fountain show set to the Rise of the Valkyries, which was blaring out:

And the "Arc de Triomphe" (yes, they even call it that on their maps) provided a beautiful backdrop:

And right at the point that Clare mentioned that she could happily spend the entire evening watching the display, the heavens opened and a torrential downpour ensued, so we retreated to a local bar to enjoy a couple of drinks:
